Abstract A process for the polymerization of cyclopentene with ringopening, in which cyclopentene dissolved in an inert organic solvent is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst, characterized in that an organometallic mixed catalyst of A. A MOLYBDENUM, TUNGSTEN OR TANTALUM SALT, B. TERTIARY BUTYL HYPOHALITE, C. AN ORGANIC ALUMINUM COMPOUND IN THE MOLAR RATIO OF A : B : C AS 1 : 0.1 TO 5 : 0.8 TO 15 IS USED.
