Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 119 words
An acrylic elastomer comprising a copolymerized product of (a) a halogenated acrylic monomer of the formula wherein R1 and R2 each is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, n is an integer from 1 to 5 and X is a chlorine or bromine atom, (b) a nonhalogenated alkyl acrylic ester wherein the alkyl group contains 1 to 8 carbon atoms and (c) one or more monomers capable of copolymerizing with monomers of (a) and (b) and where X is chlorine, the amount of chlorine present in the copolymer is between about 0.5 and 5 percent by weight and where X is bromine, the amount of bromine in the polymer is between about 1 and 10 percent by weight.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 35 words
An acrylic elastomer of claim 1 wherein the halogenated acrylic monomer is Beta (chloroacetoxy) ethyl acrylate and the nonhalogenated acrylic ester is an alkyl acrylate containing 1 to 8 carbon atoms in its alkyl group.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 35 words
An acrylic elastomer of claim 2 wherein the halogenated acrylic monomer is Beta (chloroacetoxy) ethyl methacrylate and the nonhalogenated acrylic ester is an alkyl acrylate wherein the alkyl group contains 1 to 8 carbon atoms.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 11 words
A cured product of an acrylic elastomer according to claim 1.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 11 words
A cured product of an acrylic elastomer according to claim 2.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 109 words
A process for producing acrylic elastomers which comprises polymerizing in an aqueous suspension (a) a halogenated acrylic monomer of the formula wherein R1 and R2 each is hydrogen atom or a methyl group, n is an integer from 1 to 5 and X is a chlorine or bromine atom, and (b) a nonhalogenated alkyl acrylic ester wherein the alkyl group contains 1 to 8 carbon atoms and where X is chlorine, the amount of chlorine present in the copolymer is between about 0.5 and 5 percent by weight and where X is bromine, the amount of bromine in the polymer is between about 1 and 10 percent by weight.
Claim 7
