Abstract A SELF-LOCKING FASTENER HAVING A SERRATED BEARING SURFACE ARRANGED TO PENETRATE A WORKPIECE, WHEREBY RESISTANCE TO LOOSENING IS CREATED. THE SERRATION IN THE BEARING SURFACE ARE LOCATED WITHIN A SMOOTH SURFACE, ANNULAR RING WHICH, UPON ENGAGEMENT WITH THE WORKPIECE, OPPOSES FURTHER PENETRATION OF THE SERRATIONS AND CONTROLS THE EXTENT OF PENETRATION OF THE SERRATIONS.
