Abstract
Abstract A filter is provided for removing hydrogen cyanide from tobacco smoke by incorporating a synergistic mixture of additives in smoke filtering material. The novel additive combination comprises an alkaline metal bicarbonate, such as sodium or potassium bicarbonate, and a water soluble poly(oxyalkylene) compound. Suitable poly(oxyalkylene) compounds are the high molecular weight polyethylene glycols and adducts of ethylene oxide and an alcohol or alkylated phenol.
