Abstract
Abstract A pump and closure assembly is adapted to be connected to a sealable container over an opening therein to evacuate the container and then automatically seal it, whereby the freshness of the contents of the container can be preserved. In one embodiment, the assembly includes a tubular connector which is adapted to fit snugly into the mouth of the container and which is connected to a bellow pump. The bellows pump can be manually operated to pump air from the container through a one-way valve which permits the air to be withdrawn and then seals the mouth of the container to prevent air from entering the container.
