Abstract

Abstract An illuminated button switch assembly is provided which has a self-contained light source disposed within a protective housing, and a button member carried in said housing. The button member, when in one predetermined position of actuation, has a first portion forming a wall for the light source and, when in a second predetermined position of actuation, has a second position thereof forming the wall for said light source. The light transmitting characteristics of the button member wall-forming portions are dissimilar whereby an exposed diaphanous portion of the button member is illuminated by the light source when the button member is disposed in at least one of the predetermined positions of actuation.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 241 words
A switch and actuator assembly comprising a switch including a plurality of contacts, am element movable to selected positions of adjustment to effect interconnection of predetermined contacts, and switch terminals extending from said switch and connected within a switch to said contacts, a housing, socket means disposed within said housing and having conductive socket terminals extending therefrom, a light source disposed within said housing and mounted in said socket means, and a diaphanous button member mounted for actuation between a plurality of positions in said housing, said switch and said housing mounted in adjacent relationship so that said button member is operatively connnected to said element whereby movement of said element is responsive to the actuation of said button member and said socket terminals engage selected ones of said switch terminals; said button member, when in one predetermined position, having a first portion thereof forming a lightcontrolled wall within said housing exposed to said light source, and when in a second predetermined position, having a second portion thereof forming a light-controlling wall within said housing exposed to said light source; the light-transmitting characteristics of said button member first and second wallforming portions being dissimilar whereby an exposed portion of said member button external of said housing is illuminated by said light source and produces a first visual effect when said button member s disposed in one of said positions and a different visual effect when in the other of said positions.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 241 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 44 words
The switch of claim 1 wherein said button member is elongated and is mounted on said housing for longitudinal actuation with respect thereto between predetermined extended and retracted positions, and said first and second wall-forming portions are longitudinally spaced along an elongated side thereof.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
The switch of claim 2 wherein said button member exposed portion is illuminated by said light source when said button member is in said retracted position.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 28 words
The switch of claim 3 wherein the wall-forming portion of said button member when said button member is in said retracted position is formed of a diaphanous material.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 56 words
The switch of claim 1 wherein said first and second wall-forming portions of said button member are formed of diaphanous material whereby the light rays from said light source when passing through said first wall-forming portion have a first predetermined color characteristic, and when passing through said second wall-forming portion have a second predetermined color characteristic.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 17 words
The switch of claim 1 wherein said removable wall portion to permit access to said light source.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 15 words
The switch of claim 6 wherein said removable wall portion is formed of diaphanous material.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 27 words
The switch of claim 6 wherein said button member is elongated and has a longitudinal axis disposed substantially normal to the removable wall portion of said housing.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 26 words
The switch and actuator assembly of claim 1 including a support member, said switch and said housing being mounted in side-by-side relationship on said support member.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 19 words
The switch and actuator assembly of claim 7 wherein said wall portion is continuously illuminated by said light source.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 30 words
The switch and actuator assembly of claim 1 wherein said switch is an article of standard manufacture which is combined with said actuator assembly and said terminals are resiliently interconnected.
