Abstract COMPOUNDS CHARACTERIZED BY THE PRESENCE OF A QUATERNARY CARBON ATOM ADJACENT TO A CARBOXYL GROUP ARE PREPARED BY THE REACTION BETWEEN AN A,A-DIHYDROCARBYL-BPROPIOLACTONE AND ORGANIC HYDROXYL COMPOUNDS. THE COMPOUNDS ARE RESINS OR RESIN INTERMEDIATES USEFUL IN LACQUERS OR PAINTS THAT CAN BE APPLIED BY ELECTRODEPOSITION FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS OR DISPERSIONS. THE COMPOUNDS EXHIBIT IMPROVED STABILITY TO HYDROLYSIS.
