Abstract

Abstract Sleeves for thermally insulating the molten head metal in casting risers and ingot moulds are described in which the sleeve is formed incompletely, and has a gap running from top to bottom thereof. The sleeve may thus be sprung into place by closing the gap, inserting the sleeve and releasing it, so that it holds itself in position.
