Abstract A METHOD IS DISCLOSED FOR MAKING ARTICLES FROM MATERIAL IN THE SOFT PLASTIC STATE, SUCH AS LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE, WHEREIN AN AERATED CONCRETE MIX IS POURED INTO A MOULD, THE MIX ALLOWED TO SET TO FORM A LARGE BLOCK IN A SOFT AERATED PLASTIC STATE, AND THE SOFT AERATED BLOCK GRIPPED BETWEEN A SET OF CLAMPING PANELS, THE INNER SURFACES OF WHICH ARE PROVIDED BY MEANS FOR EFFECTIVELY AND POSITIVELY GRIPPING THE SIDES OF THE SOFT PLASTIC BLOCK, PREPARATORY TO TRANSPORTING THE BLOCK TO A CUTTING STATION.
