Abstract FILAMENTS CONSISTING OF CORE OF DEVITRIFIED GLASS SURROUNDED BY A LAYER OF GLASS IN COMPRESSION. THE METHOD OF PRODUCING THOSE FILAMENTS COMPRISING DRAWING THEM FROM LAYER OF SILICA GLASS FUSED TO A CORE OF DEVITRIFABLE GLASS AND HEATING THE DRAWN FILAMENTS AT A TEMPERATURE THAT WILL DEVITRIFY THE DEVITRIFABLE GLASS WITHOUT DEFORMING THE SILICA GLASS.
