Abstract
Abstract A method of producing copies on nonfibrous, flexible transfer sheets in electrophotographic copying apparatus. In order to reduce friction between each of the nonfibrous transfer sheets in the supply stack a sheet of paper is inserted between each nonfibrous sheet. The sheet-advancing member engages only the nonfibrous sheets and advances them seriatim into the copying apparatus, leaving the sheets of paper in the stack.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
209 words
An electrophotographic process for the seriatim production of a plurality of marking material images on nonfibrous, flexible transfer sheets comprising the steps of a. stacking a plurality of said transfer sheets in registration, b. interposing paper sheets between adjacent transfer sheets to reduce the frictional forces acting on the transfer sheets during their separation from said stack with the paper sheets being arranged in registration with each other and the transfer sheets, c. forming an electrostatic latent image on a xerographic plate and developing the latent image with electroscopic marking material to form a marking material image, d. separating the outermost transfer sheet in the stack with sheet separating and advancing means brought into engagement with the outermost transfer sheet, e. enabling the sheet separating and advancing means to engage the next transfer sheet in the stack after separation of the outermost transfer sheet without interference from the paper sheet spacing the separated and adjacent transfer sheets, f. advancing said separated transfer sheet into image-receiving relation with said xerographic plate and transferring said marking material image to said separated transfer sheet and g. repeating at least once steps (c) through (f) for seriatim production of the remainder of said plurality of marking material images on nonfibrous, flexible transfer sheets.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
39 words
The process of claim 1 wherein said enabling step includes cutting out portions of said paper sheets to permit the sheet separating and advancing means to engage an adjacent transfer sheet through the cutout portion of a paper sheet.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
48 words
The process of claim 1 wherein said enabling step includes coupling said paper sheets to said transfer sheets to separate a paper sheet from the stack with the outermost transfer sheet thereby removing paper sheets from between the outermost transfer sheet and the sheet separating and advancing means.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
54 words
The process of claim 1 further including separating said outermost transfer sheet from an adjacent paper sheet in addition to separating the transfer sheet from the stack by binding a common edge of the paper sheets together whereby an adjacent paper sheet is restrained during the separation of a transfer sheet from the stack.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
36 words
The process of claim 1 wherein said transfer sheets include a light-reflective strip detachably secured to said sheet so the strip can be removed after the production of a marking mAterial image on the transfer sheet.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
20 words
The process of claim 5 wherein said said strip is detachably secured to the leading edge of said transfer sheets.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
24 words
The process of claim 5 further including the step of sensing light reflected from said strip to detect the presence of a transfer sheet.
