Abstract A SELF-LOCKING FASTENER MAKES USE OF THE LOCKING FORCES THAT ARE GENERATED WHEN A RIGID, CYLINDRICAL THREADED MEMBER IS THREADED INTO AN ELASTICALLY EXPANDABLE, CYLINDRICAL THREADED BORE HAVING A SMALLER PITCH DIAMETER THAN THAT OF THE CYLINDRICAL MEMBER. A THREADED CONICAL SECTION LEADS INTO THE CYLINDRICAL LOCKING BORE TO PROVIDE FOR GUIDING THE CYLINDRIAL MEMBER INTO THE LOCKING THREADS.
