Abstract A VARIABLE SPEED ACCESSORY DRIVE FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE EMPLOYS A WET-TYPE FRICTION CLUTCH HAVING FRICTION DISCS DISPOSED IN A LUBRICATING CIRCUIT FOR PROMOTING SLIPPING OF THE CLUTCH. THE CLUTCH IS URGED TOWARD DRIVING ENGAGEMENT BY A THERMALLY EXTENSIBLE TEMPERATURE SENSOR IN SERIES WITH A SPRING. THE UNIT MAY BE EMPLOYED TO DRIVE A COOLING FAN AT A SPEED PROPORTIONAL TO THE TEMPERATURE OF THE ENGINE COOLANT.
