Abstract AN OUTRIGGER DEVICE IS ADJUSTABLE WITHIN THE BASE OF A POSTAGE METER FROM A NORMALLY INOPERATIVE TO AN OPERATIVE POSITION. IN ITS OPERATIVE POSITION, THE OUTRIGGER OR SLIDABLE METER SUPPORT EXTENDS TRANSVERSELY OF THE PLANE OF MOTION OF THE HAND OPERATED CRANK ARM TO PROVIDE STABILITY TO THE METER DURING OPERATION OF THE CRANK.
