Abstract PYRYLIUM, BENZO(B)PYRYLIUM AND BENZO(B)THIAPYRYLIUM SALTS CAN BE USED AS INFRARED SENSITIZERS OF PHOTOCONDUCTORS. THESE SALTS INTERACT WITH CERTAIN ORGANIC PHOTOCONDUCTORS, SUCH AS ARYLAMINE-CONTAINING COMPOUNDS, TO EXTEND THE SPECTRAL SENSITIVITY OF THE PHOTO CONDUCTOR INTO THE FAR RED AND NEAR INFRARED REGION OF THE SPECTRUM.
