Abstract

Abstract A curbing apparatus consisting of a manually operable wheeled vehicle for forming curb mix asphalt into a uniform curb. The vehicle carries a curb forming shoe with a hopper thereabove and a manually controlled shutter and plunger. The asphalt mix is loaded into the hopper. Operation of the shutter permits the asphalt mix to fall by gravity into the shoe. Operation of the plunger compacts asphalt mix in the shoe to form the mix into a section of desired curbing.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 106 words
Curbing apparatus for forming sections of curbing comprising an elongated curb-forming shoe having a top plate with an opening therein, a hopper for receiving curbing material mounted above and in communication with said shoe opening, a plunger transversely disposed within said curb-forming shoe and having a cross-sectional contour corresponding substantially to said curbforming shoe, a horizontally disposed shutter secured to the top of said plunger and positioned to cover and uncover said shoe opening upon operation of said plunger to separate the curbing material deposited within said shoe from the material in said hopper and means to operate said shutter and plunger longitudinally within said shoe.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 106 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 58 words
The curbing apparatus of claim 1 characterized In that said means to operate said shutter and plunger includes a T-shaped member having a horizontal portion and vertical portion, a support member carried by said hopper, said horizontal portion pivotally secured at its ends to said support member and said vertical portion connected by linkage means to said plunger.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 39 words
The curbing apparatus of claim 2 characterized in that said linkage means comprises a horizontal bar secured at one end to said plunger and pivotally secured at its other end to the bottom end of said T-shaped vertical portion.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 22 words
The curbing apparatus of claim 3 characterized by a handle secured to said vertical portion at a point intermediate of its ends.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 212 words
A curbing apparatus for forming curbs comprising an elongated forming shoe having opposite open ends and opposite elongated sidewalls extending downwardly from a top plate with an opening provided in said top plate, a hopper for receiving curbing mix and provided with a bottom opening in registration with said top plate opening, a vertical plunger disposed within said shoe and having a cross-sectional contour corresponding substantially to the cross-sectional contour of said shoe, a horizontally disposed shutter secured to the top of said plunger and slideable horizontally within said shoe to a first position wherein said shutter is extended to cover said top plate opening to block the passage of said mix from said hopper into said shoe and to a second position wherein said shutter is withdrawn to expose said top plate opening to permit the passage of said mix from said hopper into said shoe, said plunger being moved into compacting relationship with said mix in said shoe when said shutter is in first position, and being moved out of said compacting relationship when said shutter is in second position, and operative means including a handle and linkage means connected to said plunger to impart a horizontal reciprocating motion thereto and place said shutter in either one of said positions.
