Abstract STRONG LIGHTWEIGHT SYNTHETIC FOAM CONTAINING A MIXTURE OF MACROCELLS SUCH AS POLYSTYRENE BUBBLES AND MICROCELLS SUCH AS GLASS MICROBUBBLES, THE ADDITION OF THE MICROCELLS PROVIDING ENHANCED FOAMS AS COMPARED TO THOSE PREPARED FROM ONLY THE MACROCELLS, THE CELLS BEING HOMOGENEOUSLY DISTRIBUTED THROUGH AN ORGANIC POLYMER, FOR EXAMPLE A THERMOSETTING POLYMER SUCH AS AN EPOXY, POLYURETHANE, OR POLYESTER, THE MIXTURE PROVIDING AN OPTIMIZED COMBINATION OF VERY LOW DENSITY AND HIGH STRENGTH.
