Abstract A PROCESS FOR PURIFYING RED CAKE COMPRISED SUBSTANTIALLY OF V2O5 AND CONTAINING VOLATILIZABLE IMPURITIES IS PROVIDED WHEREIN THE RED CAKE IS MIXED WITH CARBON AND THE MIXTURE SUBJECTED TO HEATING IN VACUUM AT AN ELEVATED TEMPERATURE ABOVE THE FUSION TEMPERATURE OF V2O5, FOR EXAMPLE, ABOUT 950*C. OR HIGHER, TO REDUCE AND REMOVE SAID VOLATILIZABLE IMPURITIES.
