Abstract IN CRACKING FURNACES FOR HYDROCARBONS, HAVING TWO HEATING ZONES-A RADIATION ZONE HEATED BY COMBUSTION GASES, AND A CONVECTION ZONE HEATED BY FLUE GASES, THE IMPROVEMENTS OF LIMITING THE EXTENT OF PREHEATING OF THE FEED IN THE CONVECTION ZONE BY; (A) WATER-COOLED COOLING COILS IN THE CONVECTION ZONE; OR (B) BY PASSING A PORTION OF THE FLUE GASES AROUND THE CONVECTION ZONE; OR PASSING ONLY A PORTION OF THE FEED INTO THE CONVECTION ZONE AND MIXING SAID PORTION WITH COLD FEED BEFORE ENTERING THE COMBUSTION ZONE.
