Abstract
Abstract This disclosure is directed to a fluid mixing system utilizing modulating valves responsible to the pressure of an independent actuating fluid operating on a diaphragm operatively connected to the valving member for controlling the fluid flow therethrough. The disclosure further contemplates controlling the pressure of the valve actuating fluid in response to temperature. The disclosure also contemplates a diaphragmed mixing valve for controlling the mixing of at least two fluids in response to the temperature of the resulting mixed fluids.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
228 words
A mixing valve comprising a T-shaped valve body having a stem portion and a connected crossarm portion, said crossarm portion including an inlet portion and an outlet portion, means defining a valving chamber disposed in said stem between said inlet and said outlet portions, means for introducing at least two separate and distinct fluid streams to said inlet portion, a gate valve disposed in said valving chamber to separate said inlet portion from said outlet portion, a diaphragm connected to said gate valve, said diaphragm defining a seal for said valving chamber, a closure means securing said diaphragm to said valving chamber, said valve gate having a first opening for connecting the means for introducing one of said fluid streams in said inlet portion to said outlet portion at any setting position of said gate, and a second opening for modulating the communication between the means introducing the other fluid stream to said outlet portion, and thermal responsive means disposed exteriorly of said valve body for varying the position of said gate to modulate said other fluid stream only, said responsive means including an actuator connected to said gate, a bimetal strip having one end connected to the outlet portion of said valve body, and having its other end free to flex, and an interconnecting linkage means connecting said actuator to the free end of said bimetal strip.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
292 words
A mixing valve comprising a T-shaped valve body having a stem portion and a crossarm portion, said crossarm portion including an inlet portion and an outlet portion, conduit means for introducing at least two fluid streams to be mixed to said inlet portion, means maintaining said fluid streams to be mixed separate and distinct in said inlet portion, a gate valve disposed in said stem portion separating said inlet portion from said outlet portion, said gate valve including means for connecting one of said streams in open communication with said outlet portion and means for modulating the flow of the other stream to said outlet portion, a diaphragm connected to said gate valve, said diaphragm forming a seal for said stem portion, means responsive to temperature to control the setting of said gate to effect the controlled mixing of said fluid streams, said latter means including a bimetal strip having one end connected to the outlet portion exteriorly thereof and the other end free to flex, a linkagE means interconnecting the free end of said strip to said gate valve whereby the latter is adjusted as said bimetal strip flexes whereby said gate valve operates so that one stream of said fluids is in open communication with the outlet portion in all positions of said gate valve as the flow of the other stream is varied in accordance with the adjustment of said gate valve, and said linkage means comprising a pin connected to said gate valve and extending outwardly of said stem portion, a lever pivotally connected to said pin, one end of said lever being fulcrumed to the valve body, and a connecting link interconnected between the other end of said lever and the free end of said bimetal strip.
