Abstract A SEALED CELL HAVING AN AQUEOUS ALKALINE ELECTROLYTE MAY BE PROTECTED FROM LEAKAGE BY INTERPOSING A CREEP BARRIER WITHIN THE CREEP PATH OF THE ELECTROLYTE. ALPHA, ALPHADIHYDROPERFLUOROACRYLATE POLYMERS HAVE BEEN FOUND TO BE SUPERIOR CREEP BARRIERS WHEN USED AS AN ADHERENT LAYER INTERSECTING THE CREEP PATH. THE CREEP BARRIER MAY BE INTERPOSED BETWEEN AN O-RING SEAL AND ITS SEAT IN A VENTED CELL CONSTRUCTION.
