Abstract

Abstract A semiconductor stress transducer in which a coherent light beam from a semiconductor diode laser is photomixed with the light beam from a control semiconductor diode laser. Means are provided for detecting a difference in frequencies of the light beams. The detecting means senses optical heterodyning or homodyning of the photomixed beams and indicates the magnitude of the frequency differential as a measure of stress applied to the transducer.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 31 words
The transducer of claim 1, wherein said detecting means includes means for photomixing said first and second light beams and means for sensing optical heterodyning or homodyning of said photomixed beams.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 30 words
The transducer of claim 1 wherein the wavelengths of said first and second light beams are substantially the same in the absence of applied stress on said first diode laser.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 18 words
The transducer of claim 1, wherein said second diode laser is disposed proximate to said first diode laser.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 27 words
The transducer of claim 1, wherein said detecting means is responsive to said difference in frequencies of said light beams to indicate the magnitude of said difference.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 35 words
The transducer of claim 1, wherein said detecting means comprises: a semiconductor diode sensor that yields a signal in response to pulsed impingement of light thereon; and means to indicate the magnitude of said signal.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 46 words
The transducer of claim 1, wherein said sensing means comprises: means for photomixing said first and second light beams; means for generating a signal in response to impingement of heterodyne or homodyne light pulses of said photomixed beams; and means indicating the magnitude of said signal.
