Abstract

Abstract Textile material such as strand, yarn, or cord is simultaneously false twisted and impregnated while in a slack (low-tension) condition by feeding the textile material in slack condition into one end of a rotating cylinder containing the coating and withdrawing it from the other end. The textile material in untwisted form and the coating are held against the interior of the rotating cylinder by centrifugal force and the coating impregnates the textile material while subjected to such force. The impregnated textile material passes through a heated tube to dry the coating on the textile material. A uniformly coated twisted textile material wrapped in low tension on a takeup package is produced.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 18 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the textile material is false twisted as it passes through the chamber.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 39 words
The method of claim 2 wherein the textile material to be coated is twisted and the false twisting effected in the coating chamber at least partially untwists the twisted textile material to permit easier impregnation by the coating material.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 44 words
The method of claim 2 wherein the textile material to be coated is untwisted and the false twisting effected in the coating chamber maintains the textile material in such condition in the chamber but effects twist in the material after it leaves the chamber.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 12 words
The method of claim 4 wherein the twisting is effected by uptwisting.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 14 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the coated textile material is dried before takeup.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 129 words
Apparatus for coating textile material which comprises: a. a chamber for a coating material, said chamber having an inlet and an outlet and being mounted for rotation so as to apply centrifugal force to a coating material insIde the chamber and spread it over the inside walls of the chamber; b. means for rotating the chamber; c. means for feeding a textile material to the inlet of the chamber; and d. means for withdrawing the textile material through the outlet of the chamber, the means (c) and (d) moving the textile material through the chamber so as to permit the textile material to contact the coating on the interior walls of the chamber and have a false twist imparted to the textile material as it passes through the chamber.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 15 words
An apparatus as described in claim 7 wherein the chamber (a) is a hollow cylinder.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 19 words
An apparatus as described in claim 7 having in combination a drying means for drying the coated textile material.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 29 words
An apparatus as described in claim 9 wherein the means (d) is a takeup package which is located to take up the textile material after it has been dried.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 36 words
Apparatus as described in claim 10 wherein the relation of the rotation of the means (a) and (c) is such as to provide a twist in the textile material when it is wound on means (d).
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 110 words
An apparatus as described in claim 9 wherein the drying means is a heated tube which is continuously purged with dry air flowing countercurrent to the movement of the textile material in the tube. 13 An apparatus as described in claim 7 wherein the means (c) is a textile package which rotates on an axis which is parallel to the axis of rotation of the chamber (a) to provide overend delivery to the chamber and the means (d) is a takeup package which rotates on an axis which is perpendicular to the axis of the chamber to provide delivery of the textile material to the side of the takeup package.
