Abstract A CHEMICAL PROCESS FOR PREPARING THE ANTIBIOTIC STREPTOZOTOCIN STARING WITH D-GLUCOSAMINE WHICH IS REACTED WITH N-METHYLISOCYANATE TO PRODUCE N-(METHYLCARBAMCYL)-D-GLUCOSAMINE, AND THEN REACTING THIS LATTER COMPOUND WITH A NITROSATING AGENT TO PRODUCE STREPTOZOTOCIN. STREPTOZOTOCIN IS DISCLOSED IS U.S. PATENT 3,027,300 AS USEFUL FOR VETERINARY PURPOSES BECAUSE OF ITS HIGH ACTIVITY AGAINST PASTEURELLA MULTOCIDA AND SALMONELLA PULLORUM.
