Abstract

Abstract Method and apparatus for scanning a plurality of channels to determine the azimuth of propagation of, and/or the Doppler shift in, acoustic waves which impinge on a receiver, where each channel carries a signal which is a different function of the azimuth or frequency, respectively, but where three or more of the signals are nonzero for the same value of azimuth or frequency. The method includes the steps of scanning the channels to obtain the nonzero signals in successive order, without interpolating to determine the azimuth or frequency, and then interpolating the azimuth or frequency from the nonzero signals.
