Abstract A DEVICE FOR MOVING A CARRIER EMPLOYS PERPENDICULARLY DISPOSED SHAFTS, ONE CARRYING A FLEXIBLE DISK AND THE OTHER SPACED WHEELS. A CARRIAGE IS MOUNTED TO ONE OF THE SHAFTS, WHICH IS THREADED, AND, WHEN ONE OF THE WHEELS IS MADE TO CONTACT THE FLEXIBLE DISK, THE CARRIAGE IS TRANSPORTED IN A DESIRED DIRECTION. WHEN USED IN A RANDOM ACCESS MAGNETIC DISK FILE, THE CARRIAGE SUPPORTS AT LEAST ONE MAGNETIC HEAD ASSEMBLY FOR BIDRIECTIONAL MOVEMENT RELATIVE TO THE MAGNETIC RECORD DISK. THE DISK FILE DISCLOSED HEREIN USES A FIXED MAGNETIC DISK AND A REMOVABLE, REPLACEABLE MAGNETIC DISK, BOTH SEATED TO THE SAME SPINDLE ASSEMBLY.
