Abstract PARTIALLY REHYDRATED METAKAOLIN (A FORM OF CALCINED CLAY) IS ION-EXCHANGED WITH A NICKELOUS SLAT. THE RESULTING NICKEL-EXCHANGED ALUMINUM SILICATE PIGMENT REACTS WITH VARIOUS LEUCO DYE MATERIAL IN A CHROMOGENIC REACTION. THE PIGMENT IS USED IN PRESSURE-SENISITIVE RECORD MATERIAL WITH REACTIVE DYE MATERIAL.
