Abstract A NOVEL PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF 1,2,3-TRIHYDROCARBYL GUANIDINE-1-CARBOXYLIC ACID ESTERS AND AMIDES BY REACTION OF THE CORRESPONDING 1,3-DIHYDROCARBYL-4-HYDROCARBYLIMINO-URETIDINE-2-ONE WITH AN AMINE OR HYDROXYL GROUP CONTAINING COMPOUND IN THE PRESENCE OF A CATALYST. CATALYSTS ARE SATURATED ALIPHATIC ACIDS AND ALKALI METAL SALTS THEREOF, ALKALI METAL PHPENOXIDES AND ALKALI METAL ALKOXIDES, THE GUANIDINE DERIVATIVES SO OBTAINED ARE NOVEL COMPOUNDS USEFUL AS STABILIZING AGENTS FOR POLYOLEFINS, AND AS INTERMEDIATES FOR POLYURETHANES.
