Abstract A SUBMERGED COMBUSTION TYPE BURNER THAT IS LOCATED IN A FURNACE WALL BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE MATERIAL BEING HEATED. PROVISION IS MADE TO REMOVE THE BURNER WITHOUT LOSING MATERIAL THROUGH THE OPENING FROM WHICH IT WAS REMOVED.
