Abstract
Abstract 2,7-OCTADIENYL ESTERS OF ORGANIC MONO- AND DICARBOXYLIC ACIDS ARE PRODUCED BY A DIMERIZATION-ADDITION REACTION OF CARBOXYLIC ACID WITH 1,3-DUTADIENE IN THE PRESENCE OF A PALLADIUM CARBOXYLATE, PREFERABLY PALLADIUM ACETATE, AS THE CATALYST AND IN THE ABSENCE OF CATALYST PROMOTER. THE 2,7-OCTADIENYL CARBOXYLATE MONOESTERS ARE USEFUL AS BOUNDARY MODIFIERS IN LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITIONS AND THE DIESTERS ARE USEFUL AS PLASTICIZERS FOR RESINS.
