Abstract

Abstract A pair of metal members are connected by a rivet, with a washer on the rivet and disposed between said pivoted members. The washer is made of synthetic plastic, resilient, good wearing, low friction bearing material. The washer has an annular outer portion from which an inner thinner or finned portion projects inwardly to center the rivet, thereby providing more space for lubricating oil. The outer annular portion of the washer is cupshaped or annularly sinuous to make the washer resilient. When used with a shouldered rivet, the centering finned portion centers on the smaller diameter portion of the rivet to prevent the rivet from becoming offset, as is the case with washers having a hole large enough to receive the large diameter part of the rivet. During the riveting process, the centering finned portion may be torn off by the shoulder of the rivet.
