Abstract A FOOTING OR PIER FOR A BUILDING FOUNDATION WHICH IS HIGHER ABOVE THE NORMAL FROST LINE THAN CONVENTIONAL BUILDING PRACTICES PERMIT AND A METHOD FOR INSTALLING SUCH A FOOTING. THROUGH UTILIZATION OF THE LATENT HEAT IN THE GROUND, THE GROUND AROUND THE FOOTINGS IS PREVENTED FROM FREEZING AND HEAVING BY PROVIDING INSULATION OF THE NECESSARY THICKNESS AND AT THE NECESSARY LOCATION AND DEPTH WITH RESPECT TO THE FOOTING.
