Abstract IN THIS IMPROVED CIRCUIT FOR PROTECTING ELECTRIC POWER CONVERTERS FROM COMMUTATION FAILURE, SUITABLE MEANS IS PROVIDED FOR DIRECTLY DETECTING THE ACTUAL MARGIN OF AN ELECTRIC POWER CONVERTER AND FOR COMPARING THE DETECTED ANGLE WITH A GIVEN REFERENCE IN ORDER TO INITIATE MARGIN ANGLE INCREASING MEASURES IF THE DETECTED ANGLE IS UNDERSIZE.
