Abstract IN A PROCESS FOR MAKING A HYDROXALKYLUREA BY REACTING UREA WITH AN ALKANOLAMINE AT 100-170*C. AND RECYCLING REACTION BY PRODUCTS TO THE PROCESS, BETTER OVERALL YIELDS ARE OBTAINED WHEN THE BYPRODUCT FRACTION IS REACTED WITH AMMONIA AT ABOUT THE PROCESS TEMPERATURE BEFORE RECYCLING. PRODUCT QUALITY IS IMPROVED BY OPERATING UNDER ESSENTIALLY ANHYDROUS CONDITIONS AND IN THE SUBSTANTIAL ABSENCE OF MOLECULAR OXYGEN.
