Abstract
Abstract IN ORDER TO IDENTIFY COMPONENTS IN THE EFFLUENT FROM A CHROMATOGRAPHIC COLUMN A REFERENCE MATERIAL IS INTRODUCED INTO THE COLUMN WITH THE SAMPLE. THE COLUMN EFFLUENT IS SPLIT AND PASSED TO A CONVENTIONAL DETECTOR AND TO A DETECTOR WHICH IS CAPABLE OF SELECTIVELY MEASURING COMPONENTS OF THE REFERENCE MATERIAL. THE OUTPUT SIGNALS FROM THE TWO DETECTORS ARE COMPARED SO THAT SAMPLE COMPONENTS CAN BE INDENTIFIED BY THEIR RETENTION TIMES WITH RESPECT TO THE REFERENCE MATERIAL.
