Abstract THERMAL CRACKING OF HYDROCARBONS IN ADMIXTURE WITH STEAM IN TUBES ARRANGED IN A CRACKING FURNACE LEADS TO THE DEPOSITION OF COKE ON THE INTERIOR WALLS OF THE TUBES, WHICH COKE MUST BE PERIODICALLY REMOVED IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN CRACKING EFFECIENCY; THE COKE CAN BE REMOVED, WITHOUT SHUTTING DOWN THE FURNACE, BY CUTTING OUT THE FEED TO AT LEAST ONE TUBE AND PASSING THROUGH SUCH TUBE OR TUBES A DECOKING FEED OF STREAM AND/OR WATER AND HYDROGEN, WHILE MAINTAINING THE FURNACE ONSTREAM AND CONTINUING THE THERMAL CRACKING PROCESS IN TUBES THAT ARE NOT BEING DECOKED.
