Abstract A METHOD OF FORMING A COVER ON A CONTAINER AND SIMULTANEOUSLY SEALING THE COVER TO THE CONTAINER. A SHEET OF HEAT SHRINKABLE PLASTIC MATERIAL IS PLACED OVER THE MOUTH OF THE CONTAINER AND THE TEMPERATURE OF THE CENTRAL PORTION IS REDUCED WHILE HEAT IS APPLIED TO A PORTION OF THE FILM EXTENDING BEYOND THE RIM OF THE CONTAINER, THEREBY SELECTIVELY SHRINKING THE FILM AROUND THE RIM. APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING THE METHOD IS ALSO DISCLOSED.
