Abstract

Abstract An arc lamp having short length. The lamp includes an anode extending into one end of the lamp envelope and a cathode extending into the other end of the envelope. Both electrodes include a shoulder portion outside of the envelope in abutting relation with the ends of the envelope. The ends of the envelope are metallized on the outer surface thereof and a sealing ring includes an annular portion enclosing the ends of the envelope for sealing relation with the metallized bands on the envelope. The ring further includes a radially inwardly extending seat portion disposed intermediate the ends of the envelope and the shoulder portion of the electrodes.
