Abstract

Abstract 1,123,301. Change speed control. DR. ING. H. C. F. PORSCHE K.G. 6 May, 1966 [6 May, 1965], No. 20048/66. Heading F2D. In a five forward speed and one reverse change speed gear, especially for motor vehicles, wherein a directly or, as shown, remotely controlled shifting finger 9 engageablo with parallel R-I, II-III, IV-V shift rods 7, 6, 5 is supported for movement in perpendicular planes respectively for cross-shift and gearestablishment, means are provided to prevent unintentional shifts. As shown, the shifting finger 9 is pivoted on a manually controlled shaft 10 which is rotatable and axially slidable respectively to effect cross-shifting and gear-establishing movements of the finger 9, the latter being slidably and pivotally supported by ball faces 11 thereon between legs 12 of a forked member 14 detachably mounted in the gear casing 1. Two projections 42 on the finger 9 co-operate with notches and projections 39, 40, 46 of the legs 12 to prevent simultaneous displacement of the shift-rods 5, 6. A bolt 16 slidably mounted between the legs 12, is spring urged to displace the finger 9 into its II-III position. A locking means 22 for the bolt 16 comprises a ball 24 co-operating with reduced diameter bolt portions 18, 26 and a slot (25<SP>1</SP>) in a slide member 25. The latter is constrained to move with a guide plate 23 which is pivoted on a pin disposed perpendicularly to the bolt 16 and has arms with guide surfaces (34), (35), (36), (37), a projection 32 and a bent over portion (38) for cooperation with the finger 9. Operation:- II-III neutral position shown to " R ".- On cross-shift, the finger 9 presses back the bolt 16 until the R-I plane is reached, the ball 24 moving into the slot (25<SP>1</SP>), and during gearestablishment the finger 9 engages the guide surface (35), the plate 23 downwardly rocks, and the ball is engaged with the reduced diameter portion 18 to lock the bolt 16. " R " to " I ".-The plate 23 and ball 24 are unaffected until, on gear I establishing movement, the finger 9 engages the guide surface 34 and returns the plate 23 to its original position, whereupon the ball 24 is released from the bolt 16. " I " to " II ".-When effecting this shift the finger 9 is prevented from being spring- jumped over to the IV-V plane by engagement of a finger projection 42 with the bent over portion (38). I-III shift without passing through Neutral is prevented by the projection 32<SP>1</SP>, the plate 23 being locked as soon as the bolt 16 follows the finger 9. " II to " III ".-The finger 9 engages the guide surface (36) and upwardly rocks the plate 23, thereby actuating the ball 24 and locking the bolt 16, thereby ensuring that the finger 9 must be moved across neutral before any downshift. " III " to " I V ".-The finger 9 is moved over the guide surface 37 without disturbing the plate 23. " IV " to " V ".-No change in the position of the plate 23. In shifting back to " I " or " Reverse ", " II " must be engaged to unlock the bolt 16.
