Entrainment separator
Abstract
Abstract 1,079,613. Removing dust from air. NATIONAL DUST COLLECTOR OF CANADA Ltd. Aug. 12, 1964 [Sept. 18, 1963], No. 32817/ 64. Headings B1R and B1T. Dust-laden air enters at 26 and passes over the surface of water 28, upwards through filter bed 34 and then through separator means, comprising vertically extending, parallel, Z- shaped vanes 64 (Fig. 3 not shown) which remove any entrained water droplets, to outlet 22d. An electric fan 38 is fitted on the outlet. The water level in sump 22b is maintained by float-controlled inlet 30a and overflow 30b. Bed 34 comprises spheroids, and sufficient water is entrained by the air stream to maintain a turbulent layer of water above the bed, whose depth is limited by overflow 36. Most of the dust is trapped by this layer and eventually accumulates in sump 22b, which is periodically drained and cleaned. Residual water droplets are caught by vanes 64, drain down through holes 56b in the vane-supporting plate 56 into channels 70 and are thence returned (Fig. 2, not shown) either to sump 22b or to the filter bed 34. Vanes 64 may be removed through access doors 61, and either merely rest between flanges 58, 60 on plate 56 (Fig. 4, not shown), or are recessed at their lower corners to interlock therewith (Figs. 5 .. 7, not shown). U-section rubber bumpers 54, 62 abut the outlet sides of vanes 64. Channels 70 may be rubber; vanes 64 may be aluminium or stainless steel.
