Abstract

Abstract 935,048. Percussive drills. ATLAS COPCO A.B. Feb. 5, 1962 [Feb. 14, 1961], No. 4279/62. Class 124. [Also in Group XXIV] A rock-drilling apparatus 34, 35, 36, 37, is journalled on a support 26 for rotation about an axis through a wide angle by the provision of a swivel joint 52, non-rotatably associated with the apparatus, a second swivel joint 30 non-rotatably associated with the support, and a power jack 45 having a piston 46 and cylinder 47 arranged to swing about the axis, there being provided links 53, 54 between the jack and the first and second swivel joints deriving motion from the movement of the jack for rotating the jack with respect to the support and for transmitting rotary motion to the apparatus at a greater rate of angular speed than that of the power jack. The support 26 is provided with a shaft 28, on one end of which a bracket 31, 32, 33 is pivoted and to which an arm 29 is rigidly secured. The free end of the piston-rod 46 is pivoted on the shaft between the bracket and arm and the cylinder is connected by the link 53 to the bracket and by the link 54 to the arm. Upon admission of compressed fluid into the cylinder 47, the latter is caused to rotate in the direction of arrow 57, Fig. 1, until after a 45 degrees movement of the cylinder, the bracket 31, 32, 33 is rotated through 90 degrees, to the position shown in Fig. 7. The support 26 is connected by four struts 24 pivoted at their ends to the support and to a base member 22 secured to a trolley housing 21. A jack 27 is connected between the support and the base member in order to effect lateral movement of the bracket 31, 32, 33. In the construction shown, the bracket holds a guide frame 34 in which a feed bar 36 is slidable by means of a jack assembly 38. A rock-drilling machine 37 is movably mounted on the feed bar by means of a motor 41 and feed-screw device. In the modification shown in Fig. 9, the base 22 is provided with a spigot 60 pivoted in a trolley housing 62, the base being rotated by means of a jack-and-link arrangement (Fig. 10, not shown) in a similar manner to that previously described. In the further modification shown in Fig. 11, the guide frame 34 is secured to a flange 85 formed on the end of a shaft 84; the shaft is pivoted in bearings 82, 83 mounted on frame members 80, 81 secured to a trolley 75. A jack 101 is connected by one link to one end of a pivoted double-ended lever 96 and by a second link to an arm 90 secured to the shaft. A second jack 102 is connected by one link to an arm 93 secured to the shaft and by a second link to the other end of the lever 96. By suitable actuation of the jacks, a total rotation of 360 degrees may be given to the drilling apparatus. Four jacks 78 are attached to the trolley so that the latter may be lifted until a bar 79 is brought into engagement with an abutment, such as the roof of a tunnel, for steadying purposes.
