Abstract

Abstract 921,403. Ski bindings. R. RAMILLON. Sept. 13, 1961 [April 10, 1961], No. 32916/61. Class 132 (1). A safety securing device for skies of the type wherein an abutment pivots on a stationary pivot perpendicular to the surface of the ski 3 and a resilient force holds it normally in a position longitudinally of the ski while allowing it to pivot when a lateral stress exerted by the skier's boot exceeds a predetermined value, is characterized by two vertical spindles 19 at its rear end, on each of which pivots a jaw 21, defining together an arcuate surface against which the front of the skier's boot bears while means controlled by an eccentric member, a stud 7 rigid with the pivot are provided for securing the two jaws when the abutment is in its normal position of use and for releasing the jaws, whenever the abutment is pivoted in either direction. The safety securing means comprises a plate 2 screwed to the upper surface of the ski and having the pivot 5 on which a platform 12 and the body 13 of the abutment rotate. A sleeve 6 on the plate houses a ball 8, spring-urged to engage a notch in the platform. The body 13 houses a plate 17 with a slot 16 in which the stud 7 extending from the pivot 5 engages, the plate being spring-urged rearwardly by a spring 18. The wedge-shaped end 17 of the plate engages two studs 23 in the two jaws. The jaws have interengaging teeth so that when pressure is applied by the toe of the ski boot to the jaws, the jaws pivot and rotate the body 13, the stud moves in the slot and frees the plate from the studs, the jaws then being free to pivot in opposite directions.
