In apparatus for electroplating of the kind in which the article to be treated is suspended from a carrier movable along horizontal rails, means is provided for stopping positively a carrier in a predetermined position. The carriers 20 are moved along a pair of parallel rails 18 by dogs 34 which are pivoted to a reciprocating member 26. An upright member 56 is mounted on the member 26 immediately in advance of each dog. Each member 56 supports a horizontal threaded stud 58 provided with an abutment-plate 60. When the member 26 is moved, each plate 60 comes into contact with the upper end 72 of a vertical member 50, which is pivoted at 52 to a fixed part 14 of the apparatus, and holds it in position to stop further movement of the carrier 20. On the return stroke of the part 26, the dogs 34 will slide over the carriers 20 without disturbing them. Since the alternate pairs of members 56, 50; 56a, 50a are on opposite sides of the member 26, on the next forward stroke of 26, the movement of carrier 20 will swing member 50 to the position shown in dotted lines and the arrival of plate 60 will return the member to the vertical position in time to arrest movement of the next carrier.
