Abstract
Abstract 845,675. Rectilinear - motion bearings. ANDERSON CO. Oct. 10, 1957, No. 31706/57. Class 12 (1). A rectilinear-motion bearing for a shaft 12 comprises an outer casing 10 in which channel-shaped members 13, 14 are located, the members 13, 14 carrying rollers 17 which are adapted to engage the shaft 12. The ends of the rollers 17 are formed with rounded trunnions 17a which are received in dimples in the members 13, 14. Two diametrically opposed rollers 17 are mounted adjacent one end of the casing 10 and the other two rollers 17 are mounted adjacent the other end of the casing. The shaft 12 has axially-extending grooves 12a which are engaged by the toroidalshaped surfaces 17b of the rollers 17. In a modification, rollers 22, Fig. 6, are of concave curvature for close-fitting rolling engagement with a shaft 23 of circular cross-section. In a further modification, the rollers are cylindrical.
