Method of manufacturing rubber tire tube and valve stem units
Abstract
Abstract 543,662. Tyre valves. STEVENS, A. H. (Dill Manufacturing Co.). Nov. 29, 1940, No. 17084. [Class 135] [Also in Group V] In making a tyre inner tube or other inflatable article provided with a valve stem attached by a tubular rubber base, the stem 11 is affixed to the uncured tube 10 by a piece 12 of uncured rubber stock which becomes shaped when the tube 10 is inflated and vulcanized in a mould. The mould 14 of a watch-case type vulcanizer has a valve stem cavity which may be formed in a separate plug 15 having a chamber 16 heated by steam or an electric heater. The tube is inflated through the stem 11 or through a hollow needle passing through it. The hole 13 below the valve stem may be formed before or after the attachment of the stem.
