Abstract

Abstract Equipment for long sedimentation basins and similar plant, designed to remove sediment or other sludge which has collected at the bottom of the basin, comprises a traverser 9 which is arranged to be driven from a starting position, usually connected to one of the basin's short ends, to a reception end, for example to a sludge hopper or similar, on a runway 8 arranged in the basin 1 at a depth beneath the water surface 2 sufficient to ensure that the traverser 9 transported on the runway would be completely submerged beneath the surface 2. At its front and rear ends, the traverser is fitted with one or several scrapers 19 and 20 or equivalent cleaning devices, which extend essentially over the width of the basin 1 and which in the actual cleaning position, when the traverser is driven towards the sludge hopper 7 or similar, are turned essentially vertically towards the bottom 3 of the basin. The said scrapers 19, 20 are also designed to be folded from the said essentially vertical working position, by means of a cable 25, to an essentially horizontal transport position 19', 20', when the traverser is ready to be driven back in the opposite direction to the starting position. The same cable is used also for pulling the traverser back and forth in the basin. <IMAGE>
