Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim
163 words
A method of forming a shaped diaphragm, which includes the steps of: (a) securing the outer edge of a diaphragm blank of a plastics material to be formed to an end rim of a support member; (b) fitting a forming die into the support member until an end face of the die Is adjacent to the diaphragm blank, the end face being profiled to the form desired for the shaped diaphragm; (c) applying heat and air pressure to the outer face of the diaphragm blank so that the diaphragm blank is softened oy the heat and urged by the air pressure against the profiled end face of the die; and (d) removing the source of the heat, the source of the air pressure, and the die to leave the shaped diaphragm formed with the desired profile, wherein the air pressure is applied via a sealed enclosure fitted over the diaphragm blank, which enclosure has a glass face via which the heat is applied.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
36 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the shaped diaphragm is an annular diaphragm, the diaphragm blank is circular, and the support member and the die are each generally cylindrical. *2 1 AUG 1987 £|!
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
73 words
A method as claimed in claim 2, wherein the profiled die imparts to the annular diaphragm a frusto-conical region having a cylindrical portion at its centre the axis of the cylindrical portion being at right angles to the original plane of the diaphragm blank, and wherein a central circular portion Is removed from the annular diaphragm to leave an annular ledge at the end of the cylindrical portion remote from the frusto-conical portion.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
20 words
A method as claimed In claim 1, 2 or 3j wherein the heat derives from a source of infra-red radiation.
Claim 6
Independent Claim
19 words
A method of forming the diaphragm of an electro-acoustic transducer, substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Claim 7
Independent Claim
19 words
A method of forming the diaphragm of an electro-acoustic transducer, substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
25 words
Apparatus as herein described with reference to Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawings for performing the method of any one of claims 1 to 5.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
