Video recording disc player and display unit - has data format and correction system preventing display errors
Abstract
Abstract The video system has a reader unit (1) which detects data on a spiral track recorded on a ROM CD (2). The serial data are converted to parallel form in a buffer before being fed onto a data communications bus (8). Also connected to the bus are a microprocessor-based control unit (4), a RAM unit (10) and a video signal processor (9). The processor consists of an image memory (5), a video signal generator (6) and an image line generator (11). The signal processor output is fed to a conventional CRT display (7). Each recorded sector on the disc contains data in a 12-byte synchronisation area, a 4-byte identification header area, a 2048-byte user data field and a 288-byte auxiliary data field which contains error correction bits. In the user data area, the video data are preceded by an operator code and parameter identificaiton. The instruction code is repeated to guard against errors.
