A 7 inch single record (7), which has a 38 mm central hole (6) fits over a raised central portion (5) of the mat, and drops into a ring-shaped trough (9) in the mat. Radial finger grooves extend from the outer edge of the trough (9) to simplify extraction of the single. 12 inch L.P. records (10) have a central hole (11) which fits over the spindle (3) and rests on the raised central surface (5) and the outer ring surface (8).
