Deactivating heat or air labile hydrocarbyl gps. - e.g. in organo:metallic catalyst, by treatment with water, alcohol or oxygen under controlled conditions
Abstract
Abstract Process is claimed for treating a material (I) contg. heat- or air-labile hydrocarbyl gps., in which the labile hydrocarbyl gps. are deactivated under controlled conditions. The treatment comprises e.g. reacting the (I) with water; an alcohol, esp. a 1-3C alcohol and partic. methanol; with an air stream which is opt. enriched with oxygen or an inert gas; or with oxygen under controlled conditions. (I) is esp. a catalyst component contg. a metal hydrocarbyl cpd., esp. an inert inorganic carrier carrying a deposited metal hydrocarbyl cpd. or a complex of this. Used esp. in the stabilisation of cpds. which are prone to decomposition in contact with air or on exposure to heat with release of the hydrocarbyl gps., and which may then present hazards such as release of heat of reaction or explosive organic cpds. The materials stabilised under controlled conditions to not exhibit these problems and can be re-activated prior to use.
